PERSEVERANCE

Meaningful-Bar-Mitzvah

Perseverance can prove useful during childhood in several ways. For
example, I once received an unusual grade in Jewish History. It was the
lowest mark I got my whole life. Instead of pondering about it uselessly, I
pledged upon myself that I would study hard for my upcoming tests –
particularly Jewish History, my weakness. To my disbelief, my countless
efforts earned me a 112. That was actually the highest mark I got this
year. It seemed evident to me for the first time that my great
determination and persistence could elevate my performance and
influence my skill.
This trait can also affect my success in the future. For instance, if my
doctor’s office fails to arouse a sufficient amount of patients, I will
simply approach the situation with a refreshed mind and new ideas. Some
ways of achieving this would be to advertise, to decrease co-payments, or
to rent out the office during the remaining time without patients.
J.K. Rowling, author of Harry Potter, went through a similar experience.
She was extremely poor and eventually became depressed. However, that
inspired her to grow her passion – writing – into a true work. Every
morning she awoke and went to a quiet café, where she would write her
series known as Harry Potter. Little did she know that this series would
soon generate over $15 billion. And so her failures served as a gateway to
her great success. “I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything
other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the
only work that mattered to me,” says Rowling.
